Hong Kong University Lyttelton Road Exit Ghost Warning

The Hong Kong University main campus is located at a very prestige piece of land on top of the hills, called the mid-levels.  There are five main entrances to enter the Hong Kong University, but the east gate Bonham road exit is the most quite of them both as it leads to a comparatively smaller road in comparison the others.

The Lyttelton road exist is closed for cars, but is open freely for the public to walk through.  This road is particular steep and curvy, making it quite hard to walk.  At night the road is particularly dark with barely any street lights.   While you walk through the Lyttelton Road exit, a mixture of humid sewerage could be smelt with ease and the sound of the water channeling through the drains can be heard from both sides.   During the day it seems like night as sun light is minimal with overgrown trees covering the path right till the end on the road which stretches for just less than one kilometre.

At night it takes a courageous person to walk through the road not because of the thought of ghosts but the chances of being robbed is quite high.  There are been a few cases were people have been murdered and even rapped which makes it a creepy path for people to walk through.  In the early 1970’s, many people had been robbed, a few murdered in the process, which led to more police petrol and a security guard’s being hired by the Hong Kong University.

A police officer, Sam Wong recalled strange activities when he patrolled the area for almost 2 years.  He said, “My colleague and I had been patrolling the area for almost 2 years.  In the past, there have been strange and unexplainable things which have happened.  There was an instance where me and my colleague heard to a woman’s voice scream for help right behind us but as soon as we turned around we couldn’t see anything. “

He continued, “Other strange things such someone would touch us from behind, and as soon as we turned around we saw nothing.  These things would have happened at least once per week but we both weren’t scared of these things.  However, there was a certain night in June 1989 we both could not forget.  Just over 3 months ago, a young student had been killed and raped.  I remembered that we were patrolling the area at 8:45pm till 9:35pm, and everything was normal.  But that night I heard a scary male’s voice crying.   Then I heard to voice saying, “don’t walk so quickly. Help her please, help her please!”  I thought I was dreaming as I looked around everywhere, shinned my torch light front, forward, sideways and backward but saw nothing.  During the patrol I heard that voice and comment at least 20 times.  I asked my colleague but he didn’t hear a thing, so I didn’t mention it again.”

Sam said, “After patrolling the area, we had to patrol the other side of Pok fu lam Road(the other University exit).   At around 10:10pm we received an urgent call from headquarters reporting that a murder had occurred in the Hong Kong University Lyttelton Road exit.   I couldn’t believe what had happened.  It seem like the voice knew that something bad would have happened, thus asked me to walk slowly. To this day, I still cannot forget and explain that voice.   Although, it’s been years and I’ve tried to move on, a part of me would ask myself why didn’t you listen and walked slowly where you could’ve saved a someone’s life.”

We thank Sam Wong for sharing his paranormal story with us.   It seems ghosts has the power to tell future events and even had to heart to try and possibly warn the police of terrifying events.
